Anthony C. Wood

Anthony C. Wood is a philanthropic advisor, grantmaker, preservation activist, and historian, who supports SSA with strategic planning and organizational development. Since 1993, Anthony has served as Executive Director of the Ittleson Foundation. Previously, he was Chief Program Officer at the J. M. Kaplan Fund and a senior philanthropic advisor to several family foundations.

Over his 40-year career, Anthony has founded, chaired, and staffed nonprofits, serving on boards ranging from small local grassroots organizations to large national nonprofits, including the National Trust for Historic Preservation, Partners for Sacred Places, the Weston Playhouse Theatre Company, Historic Districts Council of New York City and several mental health and AIDS organizations. For over twenty years he taught in the Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture Planning and Preservation.

Anthony holds a Master’s of Urban Planning from the University of Illinois and is a graduate of Kenyon College. He is the author of Preserving New York: Winning the Right to Protect a City’s Landmarks.
